Bee, Mum, Blur

October 16th, 2008 by

bee on a mum
I worked hard to get the background behind the bee to blur. The aperture value was 2.8, the lowest on my camera, which seems to be what causes the background to blur.

Carmi’s theme this week is blur.

Oooh, VERY nicely captured! And yup, the wide aperture (low number) is what gives you that lovely bokeh.

Great photo. Nice shade of red with a pretty blurred background.

  3. nice shot!

I’m dying for a lens that will go down to 2.8. f4 is the lowest mine will go right now.

Hola! I love how you captured the furryness of the bee. Very nice picture all around. Gracias por visitar mi blog!

Wow, are those real flowers, Leora? So perfect they almost seem fake.

What does your camera’s instruction book say about aperatures and such?

  6. Leora says:

Jannie, I have a Canon PowerShot, so it has settings. In this case, I just had to set it to aperature priority. If I wanted to blur the foreground, too, I discovered shutter priority works, and I set the shutter speed to slow. One does the opposite for sports photos, where one wants a quick shutter speed.

The mums are very real…they are growing in front of my house.

This picture would look lovely hanging on my wall: it is breathtakingly beautiful!

You’ve reminded me that I have a lovely old portrait lens with a maximum aperture of f1.8. I need to give it some exercise one of these days. I’m not sure you needed any wider of an opening (ie smaller number) because the depth of field is pitch perfect in this shot.

    Shabbat shalom!

I can always use a hint for taking photos. I was surprised to see a bee on my mums as we have had a frost…

Nice series of shots. I especially like the one with the bee.

  10. Really cool how you got the bee on the flower.
