SubscribeToday’s Flowers: Zinnia
I prefer zinnias before they are at full bloom, like in this opening bud. I planted these zinnias from seed (I started them in little containers outside my kitchen door in late spring). I got the seeds for free at the Highland Park Street Fair.
Here they are in my garden, along with orange marigolds and white mums.

Very pretty, and the Marigolds sweeten the soil. Zinnias always remind me of my mother.

I tried growing Zinnias but they didnt grow. Too much shade.

Zinnias are supposed to be easy but I messed them up every time I tried. Am bad with pentas, geraniums and bougainvillea. But I do great with spring bulbs, impatiens, pansies and lantana. Well, how can you not do great waith Lantana is a hot climate. Plant it, forget it and it grows.
Funny, I haven’t seen a zinnia in a while. Looking at that bud in the photo, it looks like a pretty button.
Truly one of my favorites all time for their vibrant splash of color where ever they are planted. These are delightful – thank you!

I didn’t plant zinnias this year but your photos make me wish I had! They are so cheerful.
So very pretty. We have had a frost here and in some locations a freeze. But I still hear insects at night, so not all the pond life is gone..
We grew some zinnias too and I love them best when they are a bud b/c it’s so interesting.
