Watery Wednesday: No Skating

No Skating sign near pond
I took this photo in September when we visited Lee Turkey Farm. It seemed like a good photo for 2sweetnsaxy’s Water Wednesday meme. Feel free to offer a caption for the photo.

I believe Route 1 goes from Fort Kent, Maine to Key West. Once we drove from Trenton to the GSP…too many cars! That’s why it is so nice to find nature near an urban setting, that is worlds away from the urban setting…

Another meme. Too late for me though. I might try next week if I remember.

  3. Leora says:

Ilana-Davita, I’ve been saving this pic since Sept. Every Weds. was a Jewish holiday. Do I have a water one for next week? I dunno.

  4. Jientje says:

I’m too tired to add any witty comment here, but I wanted to say hello!! I think it would be difficult trying to skate here!

  5. marLou says:

The sign has a very good advice. Best to pay attention to it. :)

  6. 2sweetnsaxy says:

I think it’s great and funny. Who could skate on water anyway? :-D Thanks for participating in Watery Wednesday!

  7. gmj says:

How fun! So who skates or trys to?

  8. Louise says:

Aw shucks! But I already have my skates on!

  9. very cool how it all blends in to one picture.
I didn’t know people actually ice skate on any frozen pond they see. But that’s good advice, considering usually only the top layer freezes, so it may look like it’s frozen and then underneath is all water. I actually remember learning about it once, and then hearing that someone tried it or something and they fell through, or perhaps I once read that in a book.

Babysitter, there’s a whole section about skating on ice in Little Women. Amy falls through the ice and is rescued.

As a kid growing up in Newton, MA, we could go skating on Bullough’s Pond. But first a truck had to go over it. One felt a lot safer going on a pond that a truck had ridden upon first.

  11. right, maybe that’s where I remember it from. Also, a different story, where they were very poor and a brother and sister went ice skating on a lake.

I can imagine that would help make it feel safer.

  12. Leora says:

    Babysitter, Hans Brinker?

  13. Could be, I don’t remember, but that sounds familiar.

  14. Carletta says:

I’m laughing but can’t add any more of a caption than the sign already is!
The image is beautiful. What a great reflection.

  15. Robin says:

Yeah, I’m thinking skating wouldn’t be the best plan. As for the caption I don’t think it can be improved on – that sign is simply perfect.

  16. I like the reflections on the water of the late summer trees. Very nice watery Weds post.

  17. I’d say the “no-skating” sign is mighty good advice…tee hee. Funny photo. ;-)

  18. Gill says:

Rosemarie, I liked your caption! (maybe I’ll add all these great captions to the end of my post…no promises).

Funny! Great choice for your post.

  24. Denise says:

A post to bring a smile. Thanks for sharing it.
