My World by the Tracks

There are railroad tracks on the edge of Highland Park; one could travel these tracks all the way up to Boston or down to Washington DC. Most of the trains, though, just travel between New York City and Philadelphia. You can see the train bridge in my post on the Raritan River. There’s a station in New Brunswick, on the other side of the Raritan, and one in Edison, but none in Highland Park.
You might able to tell why I bothered to head over to the tracks with my camera from the above photo. The land bordering the tracks is all nature: trees, shrubs, plants, dirt.
A path runs through the trees near the tracks, used by hikers and joggers.
This little evergreen bush was the only greenery I could find.
Ah! One tree with pretty fall foliage.

What wonderful photos! Railroad tracks are always so intriguing to me, and emit a sense of serenity in an otherwise chaotic world.
Traina and their tracks are magical. Follow them and they’ll take you to someplace else. Cross them, as in your case, and your in a beautiful wild world.
I take walks by an Amtrack rail. But your world is prettier than mine, with all those trees and glorious leaves.

The woods is beutiful. I love to take walks in places like that. (Of which I have none here!)
Nice set of photos – no wrong side of the tracks in any of these. It’s nice to find oases of woods in urban areas.

i love all the photos but my fav is the last one of the colorful leaves.
FickleMinded, me, too (loved the foliage while it lasted). I’m having a hard time finding color that isn’t paint or plastic. Everything now is brown or gray.

I’m a huge New Jersey fan. I went to college just across the state line, at Lafayette College. That part of the state, and many others, are very scenic.
Trees without leaves have a beauty of their own. Looks like a nice peaceful place to take a stroll. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice photos. We haven’t had any colours in leaves for many weeks now. Snow can’t decide if it’s staying or not. meaning every other day it’s snowing and the other day the snow smelts away. We all wish for a white Christmas here.

Erin, a technical question about trains? I’m no expert! I pay the money in the little machine, get a ticket, and get on. I’m sure someone else knows.

Lovely!!! I was on the bus today, taking sunset photographs and somehow my photos looked like some of these, but whats more interesting here is….did you took the photos while on board the train?
New Jersey really gets a bum rap. Once you get off the Turnpike, it’s really quite lovely.
Are these behind Cleveland?
Soccer Dad, these photos were taken at the end of North Eighth, which is officially Edison. I also wandered behind Cleveland, but didn’t like those shots as much, got stuck in the brambles, and then the batteries in my camera died. I’ll try behind Cleveland in the spring, to see if there’s anything pretty there worth a photo or two.
