Gull Lessons
February 6th, 2009 by Leora
A few of you were wondering what kind of birds were depicted in my Sky Watch post.
One local (Highland Park, NJ) birder wrote me:
Black Backed if you took this shot locally(note from me: which I did, I took it in my backyard); but without comparison cannot say whether they are the greater BB gull or the lesser BB gull – in all likelihood the Greater Black Backed Gull, since they are the most common in the NE.
Michelle of RamblingWoods emailed:
Gulls look different depending on how old they are. Some don’t reach their adult plumage until age 3 or 4 so they are tough.
Thank you for the nature lessons, both of you!

I lost my comment..I need to learn about the gulls because I live in an area where people travel to see gulls..Next on my list of things to study
Gulls in flight..lovely!I’m sure there is a lot of noise too!
Those ballerinas above are precious..reminds me of my swan lake!
