We will really have to go somewhere else in New Jersey soon, because I keep showing you images from our wonderful trip to Allaire State Park (if you click on that link, you’ll see all my posts on Allaire). There is a fun train ride called the Pine Creek Railroad at Allaire, and I had fun using the Live Trace tool in Illustrator to come up with the above image. I used Photoshop to get the train conductor’s face to look not posterized, by putting the photo under the Live Trace image and erasing the Live Trace layer on his face.
Another version: this one shows more color and detail, especially of the foliage behind the train.
And here’s the caboose at the train’s end, turning the corner.

What a great ruby too!
My nephew (21) loved trains growing up and still does. He just recently proposed to his girlfriend on a train ride when they got to the top of the mountain.

Neat post, Leora! Live Trace must be something in Photoshop that’s not in Photoshop Elements 6. I LIKE it.
It is similar to poster effect in Photoshop, but I find one has more control with the live trace tool in Illustrator.
A caboose is a classic in its easily identifiable red. I like the artistic view of the trees in the first one, and the second one is naturally good looking. I like old trains, and try to imagine what an impact they made in the day. It’s hard for the modern mind to discern 25 MPH as being blindingly fast today, although it was back then…

That is a nice pretty train, Leora. And RED to boot! I might have to come to N.J. to ride it. We had trains in some of our state parks. Gradually they are all closing, some parks even. Gov bush before he left to be president lowered business taxes and for upper classes so much we are in a big hole now.
And who wants to raise taxes? Really that wouldn’t be raising them, it would be restoring some clearly thought out revenue planning.

It is a great picture – I like the stylizing you made. I’ll show it to my 5 years old in the morning – he is obsessed with trains.
Gorgeous train pictures. I like the way the conductor is alive midst in cartoon like surroundings.
And the water tank; I’ve only seen them in Donald Duck or western movies.

Layers. You keep the original photo under your posterized photo. You use the eraser tool and paint on the conductor’s face. The layer underneath then shows, just where there is a face.
Nice red train. And your helpful photoshop hints are good, too.

Love that train in Allaire. My son convinced me to climb up and ride with him by the top windows in the caboose- totally worth it. My other son was amazed by how much it all looks like Thomas and his Friends, including the rusty old Diesel.
