Soup Illustration

“If I put something
in the water,
I can make Birthday Soup.
All my friends like soup.”
- Quote from Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarik
- Illustration by me, inspired by Maurice Sendak

I did this illustration (ink and watercolor on paper) for an upcoming soup post (thanks to everyone who shared a post of a soup recipe – soup post is planned for Wednesday), and later this month I plan to do a post on book illustrators.

Do you have a favorite illustrated book or illustrator? Please leave the name in the comments. Thanks!

Sendak, Leora and soup–perfect combo! Nice illustration, for sure. [I just bought at our library store the book: Blue Moon Soup, a Family Cookbook by Gary Goss, ill.by Jane Dyer. Its wonderfully illustrated and tho its written for kids to be able to help, the recipes are look so delicious.] Happy Monday!

Thanks – I’ll have to look for Blue Moon Soup.

Children’s books are often great ways to learn something new – we got an easy and delicious chocolate cake recipe out of a kids’ science book.

I like the humor in your illustration. The atmosphere you’ve created suggests a hectic kitchen, a bit like last minute preparations before Shabbat.

The boys are having cold again and soups are crucial now in my home. Great illustration – looks like yummy blend of veggies.

Even though the weather here reverted back to summer, your wonderful illustration puts me in the mood for a nice bowl of hearty vegetable soup! :-)

Great illustration. Great book, Stone Soup is a favorite of mine, and my daughter’s favorite book, which she now reads to my granddaughter, Emily. She also reads her Little Bear’s Friend, whose name is Emily.

Hello Leora, thanks for visiting my Ruby Tuesday.
My favourite illustrated book is “Little Bear” by Jane Hissey. I used to read it to my kids when they were little, and we’d do all the voices, and they’d play lots of little bear games. Boo Hoo , I’m getting all nostalgic now!

  7. I love the illustration and the passage….
