House Frame in Highland Park

There’s a house being built in Highland Park (and even more in Edison, but this one is on my side of the border). I photographed this house last week after a light snow. You can imagine where all the windows and doors will be.
Same house about three weeks ago. Lots of activity, they are building at a fast clip.
For the life of me, I could not remember what was there before. I knew there was a house, but I had no recollection of how it looked. And then my son went on Google Maps and showed me this:
They had torn down a perfectly nice-looking white colonial.

Yes, but the new house will probably be BIGGER with more closets so they can buy more stuff. LOL

That’s interesting and … weird. Here it takes ages before a house is pulled down; too long sometimes!
It is also fascinating to see the wooden structure as we have no wooden houses here, mainly brick ones. I have never seen such a structure except in the film Witness when they build the barn.

Here, construction also works very differently. Instead of wooden frames, houses are made of poured concrete and cinder blocks. As a result, the building process takes much longer.
I can think of other reasons why it might take longer.
Maybe it’s just the angle but that old house, lovely as it seems, also seems to be listing pretty severely to one side. Maybe it was falling over?
I think that’s the effect of Google Maps. Go into Street View in some part of the U.S., and you will see that all the houses look like they are distorted.
I like watching a project to completion. Can you show us this once more when it’s completed?
I’ll try to do that – sometime next spring! The magnolias in the middle of this avenue are lovely in early spring.
I can’t wait to see the new design. Oh, to die for, a colonial!

And bathrooms, too. Some older Highland Park houses only have one.
That is pretty interesting and fast. The houses here take long time to built or pull down.

That seems like such a waste of a beautiful and classic-looking home.
Why tear it down? They must have had a good reason..or maybe not.
I guess they saw it as a lot to build their brand-new home with a structure in the way.

At least this one has a good architect working on it. Other new homes aren’t such a pleasure to view.
what a shame…i always cringe when they demo an older structure and a mature landscaped property. i guess as previous commentors stated perhaps there was only one bath at most and the space did not suit their needs. unfortunately…many today can’t make do with what is in hand.

I hope they re-used some of the materials..seems a shame and must have been expensive…
So sad to see the older places being replaced in the name of progress. We owe a great debt to all the bloggers that capture and save those old building for posterity.
I have a feeling that I will still like the old house best.
