That is a beautiful photo - you are so lucky to have it. I have just started some official research with a genealogist on my family history - it's so opaque.

Shabbat Shalom.

Thanks for the encouragement, Mary. I will probably do just that next week. Unless I am otherwise inspired.

I hope you will put the photo online, Annie.

There is a photo of my paternal grandmother on her wedding day, looking very young and beautiful. Unfortunately, my father cannot locate it. It may have been destroyed in various moves and upheavals. Sigh.

This is so exciting to see, Leora. I have seen, just this past week, for the very first time, a photo of my maternal great-grandfather. And he is a young man, no less, in a picture with his wife. I have NEVER seen my great-grandmother except as a very old woman in her 90's. It was really thrilling to see them so young and beautiful.

What a remarkable photo. I LOVE that it's showing real life, so often the photos from that era were so stiff and posed, no glimpse of what day to day life was like.

I am assuming this is some tiny apartment in Brooklyn. Yes, I thought the setting was quite telling as well. That bowl is huge - perhaps that was all of dinner. And my guess is he is not used to the camera - there's no eye contact. Very different from my mother's relatives, who all play up to the camera.

What a wonderful picture! Was it taken in Poland or the US?

I especially love that it was shot in what appears to be the kitchen. It gives you an intimate, personal glimpse into your great-grandfather's daily life!
