Red Texture, Red Pattern

March 22nd, 2010 by

red and lavender grunge texture
Will this make a nice textured background for a web page?

flower pattern
Would this make a nice patterned background? Maybe if repeated with smaller flowers or leaves in between the larger flower. I think it would need to be toned down for a background or it would be too busy. Perhaps it would make a nice, simple header for a blog.

The textured pattern was taken from this shot:
roof of Dairy Deluxe
Shown is the roof of Dairy Deluxe, the ice cream place we visited on this Ice Cream Bliss post.

The flower was taken from this photo:
wall of flowers in Cape May Historical Village
The wall is at Historic Cold Spring Village in Cape May, New Jersey.

I find the background would be a bit too dark for a web page. The flowered pattern would be nice on a bedroom wall or as a pattern on curtains.

In my opinion, the textured background would be too dark for a website.

The floral pattern on its own doesn’t work well for a website, in my opinion. I think it would make a good header, but not overall on a page.

Thanks. I might try this again with future posts – take a detail of a photo and suggest how it could be used on a web page.

I think it is a good idea..giving you perspective and possible ideas.

I am tempted to take that top textured piece and come up with a design to show everyone what I mean – but I have work to do and Pesach coming. And a guest post I promised to put up on my other blog.

        Thanks for the encouragement.

  3. As long as you can read it. Too many blogs have so much going on that it makes it difficult to read. But I know that you would always design one carefully… Michelle

  4. Leora, I wouldn’t use that for background, too dark or too light. This week I have Wild “Ruby Tuesday” Flowers; they’re protected according to Israeli law.

I also think it might be too dark…but since I don’t know what else you have in mind for the page, it might be to early to say for sure.

The flower pattern would look nice as a blog header.

I agree with the others the red would be a bit dark for a background. I see why you like the texture.

I would choose the latter, its chick and not so dark..

    Blissful Ruby Tuesday

  8. Ralph says:

The texture seems like 3-D, a feeling of depth is slight, but there. I never considered the first picture to be a roof tile, but a speckled piece of art. The flower is a nice pattern, perhaps for the jacket of your first hardcover??

    Like the flowered one…

  10. nice A says:

Perhaps it will be nice for a curtain or a bed linen design. You won’t see the stain.

  11. Dianne says:

I think the flower pattern would be lovely on top and perhaps around the sides

I think the textured wallpaper is too dark for a blog

I like it a lot, just not for a blog

you take such great day trips :)

What a great idea…using photo details as page backgrounds. The flowers are so lovely…they are refreshing in their simplicity.

  13. Mirage says:

The flower design is cute! I like flower and tribal designs :D If I only knew how to draw…lol. So I just got one for my webpage instead of making one myself…

Hi Leora, Love the old floral stencil you have shared here. Enjoyed the tour I took of the village well.

  16. I do love the stenciled red blossoms. I tend to go for readability rather than colors, patterns, or textures on my blogs too.
    Hugs and blessings,
