Above the Raritan River and approaching Highland Park from the Edison side, the plane first passes above apartment blocks in Edison (lower right). Looking beyond them you see Highland Park's more ecologically suitable river edge, called "The Meadows." Also visible in this broadest view of the area is the Buck Woods ravine. It is the wooded strip running uphill between the houses of South Fifth and South Seventh. It (and the upper portion of The Meadows) is entirely zoned residential at this time. The Environmental Commission has recommended rezoning the municipally owned portions to conservation or similar zoning.
