Passing over the WCTC tower (where perhaps a peregrine falcon is perching, as it sometimes does), you can see from the air the relationships among three elements of the ecology of this area. First, in the lower left, is the stream that descends from the Buck Woods ravine. Its lower reach is freed from the pipes and straight-line ditching that confine it above and is now able to meander in a fine ox-bow loop visible only from the air. The light tan area in this April photo is Highland Park's only tidal marsh, and will soon be green and filled with varied marsh plants. The third element is the woods that begin on the right. It holds deer, nesting orioles, and many types of trees and shrubs.
