A very common mushroom in Highland Park is the Mica Cap (Coprinus micaceus). When young, you can notice little glittering particles on the cap which is the source of the name.
The Coprinus genus is also known as the Inky cap mushrooms. If you ever
find an older specimen, you'll see why - when the mushroom matures, the
caps will start to dissolve from the fringe of the cap into a black fluid,
a process known as autolysing, or self-digestion.
