This is the fruiting body of Dacryopinax spathularia, the fan
shaped jelly fungus. They are very small, reaching a maximum of 1-2 cm in
height. You are most likely to notice jelly fungi right after rainfall
because their gelatinous bodies absorb the water and flesh out, seeming to
appear instantaneously. This ephemeral specimen appeared in a wood mulch
pile on 4th Ave in Highland Park the morning after an overnight rainfall.
The next day, it was gone.
