Adin Steinsaltz is Coming to Town
Adin Steinsaltz will be speaking at Congregation Ahavas Achim in the middle of the day on Shabbat and at Congregation Etz Ahaim at 4:30 pm. I hope at least my husband will be able to hear him; there is a little chance that maybe if I can get my daughter to come with me and play with her friends, I can listen, too.
The Velveteen Rabbit
The Velveteen Rabbit will be showing at the newly re-opened Forum Theatre in Metuchen at 3 pm on Sunday. You can follow the Forum Theatre on Twitter (@ForumTheatreNJ). From the review of the Velveteen Rabbit on Facebook by Graham Gudgin:
I do not want to give too much away, but it was an extremely entertaining show. Steve Graham, playing Velveteen, was very engaging, and Maggie Graham played three roles, and played them very well. One thing I noticed especially was that while there were sad and scary parts, there were also funny and happy parts, and the whole thing was so very well structured and paced, that it held the youngsters’ interest throughout. I found that there was enough to keep the adults amused too, which always helps. In addition, the music, by Paul Farinella, was great.

I've heard Rabbi Steinsaltz speak before and read a few of his books (not his Talmud, though). I've heard of the Velveteen Rabbit, but know nothing about it.

I gather the Velveteen Rabbit wants to be a real rabbit.
I couldn't find anything online about R. Steinsaltz speaking. I saw the flyer at Jerusalem Pizza yesterday. I would double-check the time I gave; husband thought 4:30 pm. Flyers at Etz-Ahaim, too.

I was there (at Jerusalem Pizza) in the 1980s. I remember trying to make a phone call in the phone booth (long gone) and discovering I needed to put in a quarter instead of a dime, like in the Boston area.
It is now owned by Shalom, whom we like a lot. And his wife and kids, too.

Just saw "The Velveteen Rabbit" today at the Forum Theater and it was fantastic! This show not only kept my children in their seats, it is very entertaining for adults. The production is fast paced, funny, and adventurous, and the ending is especially touching. The best part of "The Velveteen Rabbit," is the brilliant music and lyrics composed by Paul Farinella, who happened to be playing the piano at the show we attended. Go see it!

Chrissy, I was at the show yesterday, too! My daughter and I had fun getting the actors to sign our program. She loved that the rabbit signed "VELVETEEN" as his name. Friendly actors! They seemed to be having a great time, too.
