Jacob’s Ladder Watercolor
“behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it”– Genesis 28:12
How does one depict an angel? How does one depict the earth, the sky, the ladder? I skipped putting the main subject, Jacob, in the painting. Maybe next time. If I were to depict Jacob, he might look like this man.

Nice to hear from you, Daniel. I did think about perspective and vanishing lines when I drew the ladder - railroad tracks were one of the first things I ever learned to draw.

The perspective here is inspiring. I love the earthiness of the earth, with the angled stretch toward the ethereal. And your angels aren't really on the ladder, more using it as a guide, because they don't need to be grounded that way. I'm looking forward to your next parsha picture.
