If you were stranded on a desert island, and you could have only five foods with you, which five would you choose? Assume you have enough supply of these foods to last you a year, and within that year a ship will come and rescue you.

Interesting question! I’ll come back when I have chosen the five foods. So far I only have one or two on the list.
Look forward to reading what others choose.
Fascinating question.
Here are my follow up questions.
Do I have fresh water and utensils to cook with?
Do I have any way to keep perishables fresh?
(Sorry if I’m getting to “into” this 😉 )
OK then.
Here goes.
Pasta
Cheese
Chocolate
Passion Fruits
Ketchup (for the pasta…)
Better put some workout equipment on this island while you’re at it…. 😉
Assuming I have water, I’ll say: rice, beans, apples, cheese, and peanut butter. I’m also guessing I can find some edible berries and wild vegetables on the island and occasionally catch a fish but even without those I could probably make it quite a while on those 5 foods. I would have to deal with caffeine withdrawal but if I was stranded for a year I’d have to deal with a lot of things. Fun question.

Look forward to hearing your response. I wanted to do something fun…
Rice, eggs, salmon, kale and clementine. It was difficult to narrow the list to only 5. Especially when it came to eliminating vegetables and fruit.

OK, I’m going with some comfort foods:
spaghetti, olive oil, parmesan cheese, kale and romaine lettuce
On the other hand, if it’s a whole year, maybe I should go healthier:
brown rice, kale, shiitake mushrooms, beans and blueberries
Maybe I should have said ten foods… this isn’t easy.
Apples, chicken, rice, arugula and… chocolate!
Mmm, I wonder if I can visit your island.
I would choose chicken, brown rice, whole wheat spaghetti, dried cranberries, romaine lettuce
I love chicken and brown rice.
Fresh bread (which would miraculously appear fresh each morning) eggs, raspberry jam, cheese, salad greens. Eh voila, an Israeli breakfast:-)
And for you, Jane, instead of being rescued by a ship, a special El Al flight will land and whisk you away.
