Umbrellas in Rain at Street Fair

umbrellas in the rain at the street fair in Highland Park New Jersey 2013

Thursday Challenge is: RAIN (Rain, Clouds, Umbrella, Splashing, Water Dripping/Flowing,…).

Umbrellas in the rain at the street fair in Highland Park, New Jersey: I am working on a watercolor of an umbrellas in rain scene. Look how gray the sky is, then look at the colorful, shapely umbrellas. No wonder artists love umbrellas.

I’ve been posting a lot of pictures of my May trip to Israel. Did you know that it rarely rains in Israel outside of October – March? That’s why rain in those winter months is so important to that country. Where I live in New Jersey, we take rain for granted. It’s supposed to rain today.

What do you like about rain?

Your photo reminds me of the one of Hong Kong I once posted.
It is pouring today here! What you write about raining in Israel holds true for Crete too.

Our rabbi just visited Crete for a rabbinical convention - Sephardic rabbis mostly from Europe, but he was invited as a special guest. Not surprising that their weather patterns are similar to those of Israel.

How colorful! I love the contrasts of the umbrellas against the drabness of the moment.

And so do! I've been staring at a different photo of the same subject for my watercolor. Maybe I'll add the cute dog ...

The cute dog would be a lovely touch, adding emotion to the scene.

The thing I like best about rain is that I can't work in the garden! Just too wet.

I like your umbrellas. Very cheerful.

Funny, I run to my garden in my crocs and my raincoat and plant away when it rains! My garden gets neglected in the extreme heat.

It's true, it's not fun when it rains on the street fair, but it's nice so many people came, anyway.

Raindrops do feel good, especially cool ones after a heat spell.

I love the pop of color from the umbrellas against the gray mistiness of the background.

I love how rain cools everything down.

I don't mind rain, but now that I'm back in a the high-desert of Boise, I'm much happier not to have to deal with it. Not sure how that bodes for moving to Seattle someday since I would rather be like Georgia O'Keeffe and live in the desert. A water color of umbrellas will be lovely.

With today's lousy humidity in New Jersey, I think the desert is beginning to sound nice as well. I don't mind the rain, but this humidity is rotten.

I like the idea of being like Georgia O'Keefe - a great role model.

Rain is reassurance that the plants will survive a bit longer and we won't run out of water for our needs. At least, not yet.

Living in Southern California, where the climate is very much like Israel's, what I love about rain is everything! The scent of it falling on hot dry pavement, the wonderful sound of drops drumming on the roof, the refreshing coolness and moisture it brings and, on those very rare occasions of lighting and thunder, the amazing drama of it all. And, like you, the sight of beautiful colorful umbrellas unfurling like bright flowers against the gray gloom of the skies.
