Nature Notes: Buds

nature-noteMichelle at Rambling Woods writes:

I am going to challenge myself and hopefully you to take a look at nature. What is going on in your area? Is it spring in your part of the world or are you heading into cold weather. Take a little walk….. look at something you might never had paid attention to..a flower…a plant..an animal…What changes are taking place?..Is your garden starting to come to life again?..Step outside and close your eyes. What do you hear? …take a deep breath…What do you smell?

I’d really like to know how my blogger friends feel about what they observe in nature. Post a photo..a poem..artwork or a even few words about what you see and how it made you feel…

For my second nature note I decided to concentrate on buds:
bud_redmaple   bud_parsley   bud_daffodils

bud_magnolia   bud_tree   bud_forsythia

Top row: red maple tree in Donaldson Park, parsley in my garden (not really a bud but “budding”), my daffodils on the first day of spring after a surprise snowfall

Bottom row: magnolia bud from N. 8th Avenue (avenue has a strip of trees down the middle), my neighbor’s tree (maple?), forsythia bud in my backyard

Please click each thumbnail to experience the photo fully. Thank you.

I guess my favorite is the magnolia bud; it looks so soft and velvety.
Why did I think Nature Notes was a Thursday challenge?

Michelle said too many people found Thursday inconvenient. So she said you can post your notes anytime during the week.

I love the red maple and the forsythia, and what I like most is that gorgeous blue sky you've got there! I love this season!

Thank you for helping me to appreciate what is in my own backyard.

Thank you Leora..what a surprise to find another Nature Note. I enlarged them all and realized that I haven't taken any photos of buds ever. I need to get out and see if there are any in my yard. I know the silver maple has flowers and I have some tulips starting to come up, but I will have to check the red maple. You inspired me....Michelle

I love this new meme. I am going to look forward to it each week. It allows such flexibility, and I love that it brings you pleasure, too.

Hi Leora,
I love that you chose to concentrate on the buds -really nice macros showing them off.
Your parsley is lovely as well.

My second post is up if you have time.

Love all your bud shots. I need to bring some forsythia in to force since we won't see them for awhile.

It is interesting to visit another part of the continent and see how different the stages of the season are. You are all buds, and my buds have burst. There is such a state of promise at the bud stage, isn't there?

I love to watch the buds form and expand this time of year. Great shots.

Hi Leora, I thought I'd pop back to answer your question.

I'm in North Carolina. We have had a weird spring with snow at the beginning of March and back and forth with warm and cold but we've had several weeks of rain and temps above freezing. Everything is bursting into bloom now. I just hope we don't get zapped again by a hard freeze.
