I photographed this one stained glass window at Congregation Etz Ahaim where we are members last Sunday. It was dark in the room, but I managed to capture this one panel of many that line the top of the sanctuary. This stained glass panel depicts the fourth day of creation, Yom Daled in Hebrew.
Genesis 1:16 –
And God made the two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night; and the stars.
This portion of the Torah is the one my son will be reading next October, when he turns 13, and we celebrate his bar-mitzvah.
It is great! My 7-year old was happy to see Saturn! Colorful – happy! Great post to see and read!
I’m wondering why Saturn is depicted as red. Isn’t Mars supposed to be red? Glad your 7 year old enjoyed the planets.
That is so pretty.
I love synagogues that have stained glass windows. I find myself staring at the pictures and forget to pray.
Oh, dear. At least these are high up, so I don’t usually pay that much attention to them.
Thanks for your comment, Raizy.
I love this window! Thanks for sharing it with us.
I also love synagogues with stained windows. This one is great!
Fabulous! Best wishes to your son for his bar-mitzvah.

Nice, colourful depiction. Would like to see the rest. And the lighting seems bright enough, as well. I know high shots can be a bit difficult but this one you’ve worked well!
I like how you captured the window on the diagonal.
It was the only way I could capture it. It’s way up there.
I discovered the side with the light shining through photographed better than the other side. I’ll have to visit Etz Ahaim at dawn to get better pics of those stained glass windows.
I love how the stars are like fragmented slices, highlighting the abstract thought in the stained glass! Quite intriguing!
What a beautiful capture of the stained glass, with all of its vibrancy and meaningfulness.
we also have stained glass windows in our shul – the 12 tribes – now if only I knew how to post photos. You’ll have to come visit – also we have in the house done by my husband – who taught my daughter.
I love the modern feel of the artwork, and how it goes with the scripture. nice post. Hope you can stop by to see my sepia scene and window views Thanks!
Gorgeous window view shot! Thanks for stopping by to see mine too 🙂
Oh the moon and the sun! A very beautiful stained glass window, Leora! 🙂
