Ruby Tuesday at Washington Crossing, PA
A few photos from our trip to Washington Crossing Historical Park in Washington Crossing, PA: lots of cars and vans cross this busy, narrow bridge over the Delaware River.
Watch out: the bridge may be icy (not a chance on this August day).

I was wondering if this red leaf signifies fall is coming? Or is it a sign of an unhealthy tree, that is turning red too soon?

Icy bridges? That is something that we almost never see out here in LA. Looks very pretty.

Hi Leora, looks like a lovely area. We have been across many an icy bridge over the years, always know they freeze first. A lesson I learned once many years ago when a car after crossing one came at us in the other direction hydroplaning into our lane and missing us by about a foot!

Amazing where red can be found, isn't it. I'm guessing something happened to the leaf where it joins to the tree.
Fall foliage is probably going to be spectacular this year because we've had so much rain. :-)

What a quaint bridge, simple and minus the confounding traffic you see on I-95, Ben Franklin and Walt Whitman bridges. A crossing more convenient than Washington's crossing by boat - and despite the travails he faced, captured the Hessians in Trenton to boot! Autumn is not here yet, just a poor wayward leaf!

I immediately started thinking of the history this area has seen when I read that the bridge went over the Delaware River. Then I scrolled to the statue of Washington and I was fascinated by the knowledge that that moment in history truly is locked in peoples' memory. We must never forget what we fought so hard for or we will foolingly give it away and not even know it is gone until it IS gone.

I think the red leaf is an early sign of fall. We're past mid-August... ouch. Maybe I'm just an optimist.

That's a lot of warnings for one little bridge...the red leaf is great! Have colors already begun to turn there or is this a previous fall?

It was one little tree that had turned colors; all the others are green as green can be. So it made me wonder if something unhealthy was causing the tree to display bright foliage this early.

Did you take route 80 out of NJ toward Delaware, Leora? I was on Route 80 last week when we visited Long Valley and Chester, NJ It would be real easy for us to drive over to the Delaware River and check out the plce where Washington crossed the Delaware... Love all the reds. :)

This is further south than Route 80. We took Route 1 going there and then Route 27 to return. Lots to see/do at Washington Crossing, both the PA and New Jersey sides.

I think that single red leaf is an early sign that autumn is on it's way... sad, but not as sad as the possibility of the tree dying :)
