Spice Making in Olden Days

Can you imagine if every time you needed spices you had to work this hard? And in the heat, too, because there was no air-conditioning 1000 years ago. This photo was taken at Neot Kedumim in Israel.

Beautiful picture. Is that your daughter?
Neot Kedumim is a very cool place to take your kids to visit.

    Great picture!

And yes, that would be hard to imagine doing every time. I definitely take that for granted. But you know, there is something about FRESH ground spices than what you’d get from a jar. So tasty! We’ve gotten in the habit of grinding up whole seed cumin in our spice grinder. It’s amazing the taste difference.

Your daughter (assuming it is) looks like she’s getting the hang of multi-tasking here. Efficient! :)

Raizy, Neot Kedumim on that particular day, instead of being “cool”, was quite hot. We tried to do water-oriented trips since it was summer, but this wasn’t one of them.

Rosie, I’ve never made fresh ground cumin. Neat idea. But I have ground up cloves by hand. Yummy.
