Today’s Flowers: Crocus

March 15th, 2009 by

crocus_purple
Such a joy that my neighbor’s crocuses are blooming! (Two points for anyone who can pluralize crocus in a different way, without looking it up in Google, no cheating!)

crocus_orange
For some reason the orange ones have opened up before the purples.

crocus_striped
A few of the crocuses have stripes!

I wish the crocuses were out up here, hopefully this nice weather we are having will spur them on.

Lovely! I don’t have any crocuses in my garden, a condition which needs to be changed. They are such a lovely harbinger of spring.

Love the metallic sheen and droplets on the purple crocus! Our crocus season seems almost over again -

  5. Ilana-Davita says:

Great shots. I guess my favorite one is the stripy shot because it is unusual.

Wonderful macros! It’s so great to see these first springing forth and beginning to bloom. That purple is stunning!

Baila, thanks for reading the challenge! I guess it’s OK if everyone else just wants to look at the pictures.

Let’s see if anyone else gives the pluralization challenge a whirl.

I was thinking perhaps croci? Though crocuses sounds correct. I suspect I would have to look it up before using the plural! Lovely photos, but I think I like the striped one best, don’t remember ever seeing one before…

  16. Lilli says:

No crocus for us yet but soon, the rains and the March winds are here

I have to say I like the striped one as well – I had some of those years ago.

    I’d love a field of croci! :)
I so smiled at your comment to Baila – I find a lot that it’s only about the photo. ;)

  21. Robin says:

Croci? Whatever the plural is, they’re lovely.
