Farm Flowers in Sepia

September 30th, 2009 by

farm_sepia
I took this photo of flowers at Howell Living History Farm in western New Jersey in the middle of the summer. This shot was taken with the sepia setting on my camera.

This photo was taken a few minutes later, in full color.

Mary is celebrating the 50th round of Sepia Scenes. Glad I was able to share in this one. And WordPress tells me this is my 900th post.

Lovely perennials. The setting and flowers look so old fashioned. Very nice photo.

I don’t have a sepia setting on my point and shoot Canon. Interesting!

    Happy Sepia Scenes Wednesday ~

The colors are nice – but devoid of the green and yellow of Summer, the shape and silhouette of the flora stands out. The muted hues of the buildings show off the flowering plant nicely as well. A nice take!

  3. Rose says:

This is a great shot…just something about it I really, really like.

  4. Leora, I love both these photos! The sepia toning and the full color shots are very creative! Walt Whitman’s Birthplace is in Long Island, but he spent the last few years of his life in Camden NJ. Happy Sepia SCenes! :)

Too late for sepian scenes I have prepared a window view post!
I like your sepia photo and it is quite interesting to see the “original” so to speak.

  8. Jew Wishes says:

The photos are both beautiful, each in their own way.

I like the sepia tones, reminding me of days gone by. It emanates such nostalgia.

Flowers are very interesting in sepia. I like this particulary flowers. I have som in my garden. Nice picture

  10. They look so much more autumnal in sepia. Very pretty, though I think I still prefer the color version for joy and cheer.

Robin, I almost always prefer the full color version! I think that’s one of the reasons I have a hard time participating in Sepia Scenes…I always want to add back in color and more color and then some color over here…

sepia makes it more fall like

    Happy 900!!
    that’s really something

  12. They are pretty in color, too. I know what you mean, I love photos with lots of color, but I’m strangely attracted to the sepia shots. I think a photo has to be really good in order to stand out in sepia.

  13. Heidi says:

I’m not sure if I like the shot better in sepia or color. They are both beautiful!
If you’d like to stop by my blog I’m at Cake Crumbs.

  14. EG Wow! says:

I like seeing the before and after shots. The sepia definitely adds age to the photo.

  15. I like the texture of the building with the flowers. I like both photos..I think it’s fun to experiment isn’t it?

  16. this was hard, I can´t deside wich one I like better. but I like the off center palcement on the sepia image. :)
