Instead of skipping Nature Notes yet one more time because I have no new photos or observations to add (I did see a hawk on Sunday flying over our home, to add one new comment), I decided to post a photo from last summer in three different ways.
It can seem like a different photo if you crop it differently.
This is probably the one most people would pick … and indeed, I posted a similar version of this butterfly photo last summer.
First, what a pretty butterfly. And I love seeing your photos, Leora! The closeup is my favorite, Great post, hope the rest of your week is a happy one!
Great idea. Cropping can make a big difference in what you see in a photograph. Beautiful shot and I like all the cropping versions. Nice to remember butterflies. I love winter but miss butterflies this time of the year.
Interesting to see how each cropping lends a different perspective to the original.
Yes, that was the idea!
Oh great idea Leora.. Handsome monarch butterfly. I could just see the two black spots on the lower wings indicating a male as a female has none but has thicker stripes.. I do love butterflies and this made me remember that spring and summer will come and hopefully I will be out there and able to raise monarchs again…Michelle
Ah, it’s a male monarch! Thanks for the identification, Michelle. And I certainly expect you will be out with your butterflies again come spring and summer.
Beautiful pictures, all three.
Thank you!
Stunning captures!
