Asbury July 4th Reds

July 12th, 2010 by

t-shirt at Asbury Park
I loved this t-shirt that was for sale in a store next to the Asbury Park Conventional Hall. The New Jersey books look worth a scan, too.

Asbury Park Conventional Hall sign
Aw, shucks, we missed the wrestling.

flags on boardwalk
The boardwalk was all decked out with American flags.

fireworks in red
If you like these fireworks, you can see more on last week’s Skywatch post. And here’s the pre-fireworks beach scene.

Great series. It seems that America celebrates itself with lots of colors, more so than France.

  2. Jew Wishes says:

Great photos, and wonderful reds for RT!

    Impressive fireworks.
Because of the many accidents and wooden houses catching fire, fireworks are forbidden in Norway, even on New Years Eve.
The North Sea is full of oil rigs despite all previous and recent outburst.
I guess every law has a price tag.

50 % off on books is my kind of shopping paradise.
    Did you find any? many?

Ulysses is great summer reading, a slow book for slow days. I have a support book, CliffsNotes, great help to keep track of all the names and also the refrences to Homer.

“Oranges from Palestine, wrapped in silkpaper.”
I well remember the Jaffa oranges coming in silk paper for Easter in my childhood. We did not have exotic fruits of all kinds, all year back then.
To get enough vitamins, we had to drink cod liver oil in the winter. Tough life.

Enjoy New Jersey summer and life in general!

When my mother was a little girl in Russia, she only had an orange as a special treat around Christmas time.

I had my family with me – they have no patience for shopping. I snap pictures in the hopes that at some point I can come back and investigate more.

  4. Great series of photos celebrating your special day!

Beautiful photos of the celebration. I love to watch fireworks and we have it every Australia Day celebration in our suburb. Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos.

Your title makes me think of the old Bruce Springsteen song ‘Sandy’ about the 4th of July in Asbury Park. I small the briny surf, those waiting on the boardwalk awaiting the fireworks. I feel the sand on my feet looking at the Independence Day festivities!

    • Leora says:

      I Googled for the lyrics:
4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)
Sandy the fireworks are hailin’ over Little Eden tonight
Forcin’ a light into all those stoned-out faces left stranded on this Fourth of July
Down in town the circuit’s full with switchblade lovers so fast so shiny so sharp
And the wizards play down on Pinball Way on the boardwalk way past dark
And the boys from the casino dance with their shirts open like Latin lovers along the shore
Chasin’ all them silly New York girls

Sandy the aurora is risin’ behind us
The pier lights our carnival life forever
Love me tonight for I may never see you again

A lovely 4th of July post Leora. I am impressed with those fireworks also. I can never get them to come out – operator error on my part of course ;) One of these days I’m going to have to take a photography course.
